2007 Community Outcomes

"What Matters"

Sometimes when we are asked to contribute to charity, we may not know how much good we can do.

On behalf of the children, families, and elderly in Allegany County, the United Way would like to thank you for your support.

1,021 clients receive help with food, rent due to eviction notices, utilities and/or heating fuel through Associated Charities and the American Red Cross.

Thirty-three homes, housing 47 individuals, will receive much needed repairs through NAILS Mission Project.

250 individuals will benefit from the Allegany Health Right Emergency Dental Program.

480 adults with Big Brother/Big Sisters, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts provide mentoring to over 970 children.

Allegany County HRDC will help 118 individuals with transitional housing, housing placement and homeless prevention.

1,265 clients will receive 2,740 short term prescription medications from Associated Charities.

Family Crisis Resource Center will provide domestic violence counseling to 80 individuals; and 20 young girls will learn to identify low self esteem, unhealthy relationships and domestic violence.

The June Foundation will provide cab vouchers to 75 families (mother and children) so that they are able to keep scheduled medical appointments.

39 families with 59 children will receive infant/toddler care through the HRDC.

The YMCA provides an alternative high school and child care for 18 young mothers and their 18 children.

125 children attend the Salvation Army’s After School Program.

The Piedmont Library serves as a community center for 2,200 children and 1,600 adults.

A short term shelter will be provided to 8 children in crisis by the Maryland Salem Children’s Trust.

1,250 individuals will receive structured family programs as well as open recreation and group activities through the YMCA’s Fit and Healthy Families program.

Western MD Food Bank distributes over 1 million pounds of food every year. Each month 12,500 Allegany County residents benefit from the food pantries that utilize the Food Bank.

Villa Maria of Mountain Maryland will provide 15 sessions of therapy to clients.

9,200 individuals will benefit from blood collections through the Red Cross.

Computer training for community members through Carver Community Center.
