Volunteer
Community Response
Are you concerned about the needs of our community? Do you
like to spend money? Can you ask tough questions? If you answered
yes, the Community Response Committee may be the volunteer
opportunity for you. Community Response is the process by which
United Way volunteers determine what agency programs are funded
and at what level. The process usually begins with an orientation
in late January or February and agencies meetings in March
or April. Number of volunteer hours varies by county.
Campaign
United Way’s annual campaign is an integral part of
the United Way system. In order to fund program for agencies,
a successful fund raising campaign must be run. United Way
is always looking for volunteers to help in recruiting new
and veteran companies to run employee giving campaigns. Volunteers
can choose to recruit in any division (divisions vary by county).
Volunteer hours vary by division and county.
Day of Caring
You can volunteer for this event by joining our planning committee
and help recruit teams, sell sponsorships or assess projects.
You can volunteers for the actual event by joining or leading
a work team from your work, church or group, helping with logistics
such as set up, registration, serving breakfast or lunch or
tear-down. The planning process for each event begins early
in the year with monthly meetings. The events will
take place the following days in 2007 – Cumberland, September
7; Frostburg, September 29; Garrett County, September 21 and
Mineral County, October 4.
Executive Committee
The Executive Committee in each county meet every other month
and the meetings last one hour to one and one half hours. Each
Executive Committee member is asked to participate on one or
more committees within the organization. Committees that have
not been previously explained include: By-laws, Marketing,
and Volunteer Development. In addition there is an Administration/Finance
Committee, which reports to the Board of Directors. Executive
Committee members dedicate 10+ hours to their work on the Executive
Committee yearly.
